Open Source Cook

Jesse and I are starting a new venture together. Some of you may or may not know that I have a huge cookbook online. Well, I do. All of the recipes are ones we either like or have been given to me by someone. It had come to my attention that a lot of people use it. More than I thought did at least. Jesse gives it out at work a lot. Of course, this may be due to all the food I send in with him. I like to cook. I like to try new recipes. What I don’t like to do is make a four serving meal and have leftovers that never get ate. So I like to find guinea pigs and I’ve found that the best ones tend to be geeks or co-workers.   Each time Jesse has taken in something, someone always asks for the recipe, so he gives them my cookbook address.  It’s handy. Well, this last time, one of his co-workers wanted to leave a comment and they were talking and the next thing I knew, opensourcecook.com was conceptualized.

Basically, Jesse is going to help me completely revamp the look and interaction of my cookbook. It’s going to get a newer and cleaner design (I hope), a place where people can submit variations to recipes as well as comments, rate their favorite recipes, etc. I will tell you this, it’s going to take a long time to do. We just don’t have a lot of time to devote to it right now (three weddings and a 7 month old who is crawling means we’re sorta busy). However, I’m hoping to have it up and running by the first of the new year, but something tells me that is wishful thinking.

If you’re interested in knowing what we’re thinking of doing or would like to make any suggestions, check out our planning page at Jesse’s wiki. Once we stat to seriously work on it, we’ll put up a development page so we can report our progress.

New Author - Sunny

So I found a new author…Sunny. That’s it. Just plain Sunny. I came across her in the anthology On the Prowl and went looking for her novels. The first novel is Mona Lisa Awakening and it’s about a race that migrated to Earth from the Moon over four million years ago. All the legends about werewolves and vampires come from them, but they’re all wrong. It’s actually a very good read. I was surprised at how easy it was to go through. Even playing with Ian most of the day, I was still able to get through it within 24 hours (yes, I read a lot at night). The order of the novels is kind of weird. The first book is followed by a story in the anthology Over the Moon and then goes to her second novel Mona Lisa Blossoming and continues with the story in On the Prowl. Her third novel, Mona Lisa Craving, doesn’t come out until next January. From what I can tell, she’s a fairly new author.

Susan G Komen - Race for the Cure

A lot of you know my friend Joslyn. Well, she just moved to Colorado over the summer and she is doing her first 5k run in Denver for the Susan G Komen - Race for the Cure. She used to run all sorts of 5k’s while in Grand Rapids and it’s exciting to know she can continue to run them in Colorado. The Susan G Komen Race for the Cure is a great organization that wants “to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through advancing research, education, screening and treatment.” If you want to help Joslyn support this great cause, just follow this link. Support her in any way you can - whether you can donate any money or by praying that she doesn’t break an ankle.

I love donating to and supporting great causes. Especially the ones most people don’t think about.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with my first child, sometimes wondering what I have gotten myself into. I have an amazingly supportive husband, who is also a computer geek with a slight anti-social complex.

I love books, but if you want to know more, check out Literary Escapism. I'm also beginning a new venture as a Pampered Chef Consultant. I love to cook and it's a great way to supplement our income while still staying home with Ian.
