Talk about holiday fever - the stores were so intent on getting out their merchandise for the shopping blitz that they accidentally put out Carrie Vaughn’s new novel “Kitty and the Silver Bullet” two weeks early. Not that I’m complaining, that just meant I got to read it before a lot of other people.

I have to say, I love Vaughn’s naming scheme. She uses such vague titles that it’s hard to figure out what the book is about before you open its cover. The Midnight Hour…Goes to Washington…Takes a Holiday…nothing indicates the trouble Kitty is going to find herself and it allows you to anticipate something exciting. Kitty and the Silver Bullet is no exception. Kitty has said that she never plans on going back to Denver, but when a family emergency comes up, she doesn’t have a choice. She’s not going to ignore the emergency, but that doesn’t mean she has to broadcast her whereabouts. Of course, we all know how her best intentions go. What happens next leads us down a couple of different roads, all of which have potential for more exciting fun later on. I especially enjoyed the angst Vaughn put Kitty and Ben through as they tried to figure out their relationship. Are they together because they’re werewolves? Would they be together if they weren’t? Through this all, they find themselves in the middle of something that has bad idea written all over it.

I’m not going into any more detail than that. After all, if I did, what motivation do you have to read it. Plus I don’t want to ruin it for those looking forward to its official release. Suffice it to say, that the story was so good, it kept me glued to the pages and I had it finished in hours. I couldn’t put it down. The trials Vaughn put Kitty through this time around showed us how much she has grown since The Midnight Hour and how she has persevered through it all.
