Prunes? Harry!

Posted by myjaxon On July - 21 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

Harry Potter is out! Yes I went and picked up my copy today and I have already started reading it. Of course I only got through the first two pages before Ian woke up. I think it’s going to take me a little longer than normal to get through it, but I will. Never doubt that.

Prunes are not that bad. Well, a jar of prunes via baby food isn’t bad until to you get to the after taste. Ian had his first taste of prunes tonight, so of course I had to try them. He actually took it better than the applesauce. Kind of surprising, but overall a complete mess was made. He is definitely getting big and he’s not crawling yet, but give him time. He has the desire, he just hasn’t figured out how to make all of his limbs move correctly yet. We’ve been taking Ian swimming and he is having the time of his life. We started out taking a raft for him to use, but Ian has more fun when he’s splashing in our arms than sitting in the water. Of course, the raft is meant for kids 6 months and older and Ian isn’t quite there yet; but, it came with a shade, so it would keep the sun off of him. We fixed this by going when the pool is completely shaded by the trees around 5pm. Perfect timing too. Ian gets a work out right before bed.

I’ve found this really great site for mothers. It’s called RaisingThem. It’s a huge discussion board where you can ask all sorts of questions and receive some pretty quick answers. There’s a bunch of different groups you can join, each with their own topic, and you can help one another. I have found some really useful tips from them. For instance, someone posted a Target coupon that gives you $1 off any two packages of baby food and you can print off as many as you want. Jesse and I went out today and picked up a bunch of different kinds. I’ve also been able to ask the other mothers different questions that I’ve been hesitate to ask my pediatrician. Not because I didn’t think they were worth asking, but because they were generic questions. For example “what kinds of food can give a baby constipation” or “nursing before bedtime…good or bad habit” or there was one lady who asked for some advice regarding her mother in law.

I think that’s all for now. I’m going to go read some Harry.

Ian and Mama Ian

The Last 48

So a couple of crucial things have happened in the last 48 hours. The first one is the important one. I’ve finally got back to the gym. For the last couple of weeks, Jesse has been getting up early and heading to the gym for 30-45 minutes. I haven’t gone in the past because I wasn’t sure what we could do with Ian and he has a tendency to get up around 2-3am and again around 5-6am. For me, getting up 30 minutes after getting Ian back to sleep is not how I want to start off my day. I’m really tired at that point. Plus, how could Jesse and I go to the gym together? Who would watch Ian. I mean, it’s not like we could put him in his stroller and take him with us, right? Actually, that is exactly what we’re doing. Instead of getting up a the same time every morning, we’re getting up with Ian around his 5-6am wakening. I’m fairly awake at that point and staying up isn’t that much of a problem then. I’m still trying to get Ian to go back to sleep, but instead of putting him in his bed, we’re putting him in the stroller and he gets to continue sleeping while we’re at the gym. We started doing this yesterday, but today was the first time Ian went with us (Dad was here yesterday morning). The whole plan was contigent on Ian sleeping while we were there; however, for some unknown reason, Ian decided he wanted to wake up at 6am and stay up. So we still put him in the stroller and he had a ball with the ceiling fan. :) Jesse and I were at the gym for about 45 minutes and Ian never made a sound. He ended up falling back asleep on the walk back to the apartment, but he wasn’t fussy or crying. So it works. I think this will work out. I’ve been cutting back on my food intake to help me lose some of the massive amounts of weight I have gain and now I’ve started exercising again. I’m still going to try Weight Watchers, but I’m going to wait until this fall. The goal is to lose a lot of the weight I gained in college in case I do end up going to my 10 year reunion next year.

We have mice! Not one, not two, but three of them. Well, we did have three mice, but we don’t know if we have any more. That’s the other thing that happened in the last 48 hours. How do we know, you ask. Ask Jesse. Anyway, the maintenance guys were out yesterday to set two traps and one was sprung rather quickly. Unfortunately, two more were caught in the remaining trap last night. I am not amused. I do not like mice running around my home. They can be under glass in a zoo somewhere, but where I eat and stand and live….not happening. I really want to know how many there are so we can get rid of all of them. I hate mice.

We finally got Ian a bouncer. Actually, dad bought the bouncer for Ian yesterday and stayed to help me put it together. Ian started going nuts in it as soon as we put him in it. He’s not crazy about it when he’s tired, but that’s to be expected.

Michigan has a HUGE Renaissance Festival in Holly every year and I really want to go this year. I’ve been to it in the past and it is a blast. It is open for 8 weekends and I have no specific date that I am interested in, so I’m seeing if anyone else wants to go and which dates work for them. If you want to go, make a comment so others can see who’s interested as well. Here is the info:

Weekend Themes:
Buccaneer Beer Fest: Aug. 18th and 19th
Grab your tankard and set sail to Hollygrove for adventure and fun.

Highland Fling: Aug. 25th and 26th
Kick up your heels with traditional Scottish music and the annual Highland Games.

High Seas Adventure: Sept. 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Drown yourself in laughter at the Swab the Deck game or Perfect Pirate Contest

Sweet Endings: Sept. 29th and 30th
Parting is such sweet sorrow, but we make it better with our tasty Chocolate Festival.

Ticket Prices:
$17.95 for Adults
$8.95 for Children
I can get tickets ahead of time so we won’t have to wait in line, but in order to do so, I’ll need to know who’s interested and have their money in hand.

Exit 106 (Grand Blanc), stay in left lane of exit, travel two blocks.

south to the right.

The Festival is located two miles south on the right.

The Morgan Family

It’s been a month (34 days, 12 hours, 32 minutes and 59 seconds old as of 2007-04-01 17:34:59 - gotta love the Internet counters) since Ian was born and I thought I would update everyone on some Morgan news.

We finally got a decent “Morgan Family” picture done of the three of us and I wanted to share it with everyone.

For those who didn’t hear, Ian was diagnosed with RSV (a cold for you and me, but more severe with Ian) when he was 12 days old and he is finally doing a lot better. You can still hear some wheezing, but it is nothing like it was. We’re now working on getting him to sleep in his bed and once he does that, he should be sleeping through the night. He already sleeps through the night when he sleeps with mama, but we’re trying to get away from that (when he was sick, it helped his congestion to sleep on my chest, which meant I didn’t get much sleep at all, if any). He likes to sleep on his tummy, but unfortunately, he’s not allowed to do that unless Jesse or I watch him and we’re not going to stay up at night to do that. :)

Jesse and I are starting to adjust to our new sleep schedules and we’re doing better than a month ago. Exhaustion is still our constant companion, but we’re coping. We are currently getting ready for a month of traveling with an infant. We have trips plan to see all of the grandparents and more family members this month as well as a trip out to Grand Rapids (hopefully). Jesse was finally allowed to upgrade our file and web server into one machine and is happily dealing with that as well as playing on the Wii. I’m slowly learning how to do things one handed while having Ian with me. I have my 6 week check up with my doctor on Thursday, so we’ll see how well I’m doing then. On the plus side, I have lost most of my pregnancy weight as well as some additional pounds.

That’s it for now. Enjoy the pictures.

Jesse’s New Toy

Jesse has been wanting to upgrade the file and web servers for awhile now and I finally let him once our data started getting corrupted (thank god he was able to fix it). He got it all put together on Thursday and felt the need to share the size of it.

I am a stay at home mom with my first child, sometimes wondering what I have gotten myself into. I have an amazingly supportive husband, who is also a computer geek with a slight anti-social complex.

I love books, but if you want to know more, check out Literary Escapism. I'm also beginning a new venture as a Pampered Chef Consultant. I love to cook and it's a great way to supplement our income while still staying home with Ian.
