Open Source Cook

Posted by myjaxon On May - 10 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

I’ve been tossing back and forth about whether I actually want to have yet another blog to keep track of (I currently have 3 - mine, Ian’s, and Literary Escapism).  I like to cook/bake and I love sharing recipes when I find ones that work.  Jesse and I both have a tendency to play around in the kitchen, especially with spices, so when we come across something that works, it’s great.

I know it’s probably a big mistake, but I started up a blog for Open Source Cook.  I already had the URL address, so that wasn’t stopping me and it’s just a matter of putting up any recipes here instead of bogging down my own blog.  There are times when I’ll get in a zone and do nothing but blog about food or books, so this should help prevent that at myJaxon.

So, the blog is all set up in WordPress and of course I’ve been playing with it all day.  I still need to come up with a different picture for the header, but it works for now.  If you’re curious, check it out.

Cyclone Nargis Contest

Posted by myjaxon On May - 8 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Alright people, I have a contest for everyone. I’ve posted this up at Literary Escapism, but I know most of my friends here like to read. Even though we don’t all have the same taste in novels, I had to tell you guys about this contest. Ann Aguirre, author of Grimspace and Wanderlust, has graciously started a huge contest to benefit the victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.

Here’s the deal. You pick a charity and donate some money. I don’t care how much. Send me an email with a transaction number, showing that you gave to disaster relief (even just a buck), and I’ll enter you in a drawing for $200 worth of free books. (Note: the prize has gone up. Alessia Brio is adding $50 to the pot.

The relief support for the victims of this horrible natural disaster are in desperate need of donations. There are a bunch of different places you can donate, so it’s pretty much up to you where you want to go. I’ll even make it easy for you. Here is a list of private organizations that are currently working in Myanmar and helping to deal with the after effects of Cyclone Nargis.

Now you don’t have any excuses to make a donation. I’ve linked up each name to their donations site, so all you have to do is spend 2 minutes and click on a link. I’ve already made my donation to CARE (sorry babe, but it’s a worthy cause and they need it more than we do right now), now it’s your turn.

Dear Jackie,

Thank you for your generous donation. Your gift to CARE will
help provide emergency relief to thousands of survivors of
Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.

Literary Escapism has Moved

Posted by myjaxon On May - 6 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

So for those of you who have been checking out my book review blog, I’ve moved it to a new location. It was originally on Blogger, but since I was putting so much work into it, I decided to switch it to a Wordpress format since I am far more familiar with that. I finished getting everything transitioned tonight, so I’m calling it on the blogger version. It died at 11:03pm. Blogger has been good to me and it was easy to update, but it wasn’t real easy to manipulate and they had very few templates that didn’t look cartoony. Now I have something that is a bit more stylish. If anyone gets a chance, head on over and check it out. I would love to hear what people think about it.

B93 Birthday Bash

Posted by myjaxon On May - 5 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Okay, I’m excited. B93 announced this years Birthday Bash lineup and I’m excited to see who is playing there. For those of you who are not aware of this event, B93 (a Grand Rapids, MI radio station) hosts a huge concert event every year for their birthday. Originally it was a one day event starting early in the morning with a new upcoming act and ending with a headliner. Last year, or maybe the year before that, they turned it into a two day event. Now they have two headliners instead of two. This years lineup is going to be awesome and I’m really hoping I can talk Jesse into letting me go. The event is at the Ionia fairgrounds, which means they have camping available for a price. Does anyone want to go camping for a night? The Bash is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st and Sunday, June 22nd and the whole concert is free (but they did have reserved sitting for a fee last year, but it included all the acts and both days).

Here’s the lineup:

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with my first child, sometimes wondering what I have gotten myself into. I have an amazingly supportive husband, who is also a computer geek with a slight anti-social complex.

I love books, but if you want to know more, check out Literary Escapism. I'm also beginning a new venture as a Pampered Chef Consultant. I love to cook and it's a great way to supplement our income while still staying home with Ian.
