It’s amazing what people will do for money these days. Most of you know that Jesse and I recently moved back to Michigan from Virginia and we’ve had some fun times with getting everything situated. Well, everything was working out fine until I had to deal with Washington Gas. We cancelled our account and had the service scheduled to be shut off around April 17th. I thought everything was fine. Now check this out.
On April 18, 2006, a bill was sent to my new address in the amount of $284.98. I’m trying to figure out how we have a $200+ bill when they have never been over $40 before. It gets even weirder. On this bill, there is a “deposit refund” of $160.00. I’m not exactly sure why there was a deposit refund on the account.
On May 3, 2006, I received a bill for $269.25 for services. The strange part is, this is the same bill they sent my on April 18th, yet the totals are not the same. I get the bill and I tell myself I need to call and find out what is going on.
Today is May 22, 2006 and I called Washington Gas. I told them I didn’t understand how my bill could be $200+ when it’s never been over $40 in the past. Their explanation, we were on a budget plan and we had to pay off the rest of the year. When the hell did I sign up for that? I would never had signed up for that because back in October, Jesse and I were looking for jobs to move back to Michigan. Why would we have given ourselves more of a financial headache if we could have avoided it? Not only that, but we didn’t have to be on a budget plan, we could have paid the bills in full.
So the lady I’m talking to is not giving me any help. She keeps telling me that I signed up for the budget plan and I keep telling her I didn’t. So then I ask to speak to a supervisor. She says one will call me back and I told her if I didn’t hear back within an hour, than I would call back. I want to get this taken care of. I don’t like having a $200+ bill out there.
So two hours go by and I haven’t heard a word. So I call back. I talk to another lady and I ask to speak with a supervisor. She tells me to hold for a supervisor. I hold for 10 minutes and then someone else comes on. She asks how she can help me and I told her I was holding for a supervisor. She said supervisors don’t take calls from this line and that they would call me. I asked her how someone could tell me to hold for a supervisor and then not have one answer the phone and she gives me the same line on how they would call me back. I didn’t sit on hold for 10 minutes for nothing. So now I’m starting to get really upset.
A supervisor calls me. He tells me I was on a budget plan. When I ask how I was put on a budget plan, he tells me I called to start one up. I tell him I would never have done that since I was not going to be staying in the area and would like to see his evidence that I was indeed asking to be put on one. He says that my invoices are the evidence since they state on them that I was on a budget plan. Well, that doesn’t exactly tell me that *I* asked to be on one, it tells me that your computer put me on one. I ask him again where is the evidence I called them to start this plan and he gives me the same bullshit about the invoices. He also states that Jesse and I have used $269.25 of gas since last October. Why in the hell weren’t we charged for it then? At this point, this guy has me so pissed off that I’m shaking and requesting to talk to his supervisor, but he can’t stop listening to himself speak that I end up hanging up on him. Seriously, this guy talked more than I did and he kept saying the same exact damn thing. How is that being helpful.
Now I need to either call back the number they called me on, or have Jesse deal with them. Let’s see what Jesse says first.
