This sucks

Posted by myjaxon On August - 24 - 2006 ADD COMMENTS

So yeah, it’s official. The big move was pointless. While it’s good to be back, it’s not good to be back in a job market that doesn’t exist. Today, Jesse was laid off from the job that brought us back. So yeah, we left a job market that was really good and we were actually saving money, to an area that may have our friends and family, but sucks when it comes to finding a job. The worst part, this means we lose our insurance.

Status Update

I wanted to give everyone a status update from the move. It’s been 2 weeks now and we’ve finally got the Internet connected and we’re back online. So for the first update, the Internet is connected!!! Jesse and I were going through a short connectivity withdrawal without the Internet. It was getting to the point where Jesse invited people over just so he could find out what was going and have some human interaction. Since the Internet is hooked up, both of our websites (morgajel.net and myjaxon.com) are back in action as well as our blog sites (morgajel.net and blog.myjaxon.com), and of course, irc is hooked up as well.

For those of you who are helping me with my diet, I’ve had a little set back. With the move, eating healthy has been a little harder (pizza is so easy to order) and since I’m not in DC, Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do have been cancelled from my regiment. I’ve started walking with Joslyn as well as biking with some friends in order to continue with the weight loss. I’ve also purchased two Billy Blanks exercise DVDs since they were recommended by Diane, my kickboxing instructor. I am hoping to get involved with some form of martial arts by the end of summer; the form I am looking at right now is Jow Gar where Jordan and Chris have attended. My diet chart has been a little empty as I didn’t have a scale for awhile, but I’m back to keeping track of that as well and can still be found at myjaxon.com/MyDiet.php.

As for the move itself, it went alright. The movers were at the apartment in Fox Chase on Wednesday the 12th and spent all day packing. All I can say about the movers is…Wow! How in the world do these geniuses keep their jobs? I, for one, do not have a problem speaking to people where English is not their native languages. Nor do I have a problem with them in Spanish if that is their native language, but damn, when I have to repeat myself 3 different times to get them to understand what I’m talking about, it gets kind of annoying. I could go on about them, which I will on my blog if you want to hear about it. Anyway, the movers were then back at the apartment on the 13th to load it up and ship it out. When I say ship it out, I mean literally, they shipped it out. Joe, the driver, left from my apartment in DC for my apartment in GR and I had my stuff in the new space within 24 hours. That was awesome. Go Joe!

It’s been a couple of weeks since we moved back officially and we still have some boxes left. Thankfully, not many. I finished unpacking all of the boxes I could today; I still have all of the books packed up as Ramblewood is in the process of refinishing some library shelves in our apartment and I really don’t want to unpack all of the books just to have to move them when they come to work on them. Makes sense, right. The apartment is still in the whole unpacking mess phase, but that will be fixed hopefully rather quickly. Just has an FYI, I am trying for an Open House on May 20th, but I’ll send out official invites next week. I am also hoping that Ramblewood will have all of my work requests done by then. I’ll be posting pictures for those who won’t be able to make it, due to mileage, once the place is cleaned. I do have to say one thing, I didn’t have to buy anything new to decorate the apartment with. With the painting job we did, everything I had went with the color scheme we chose. It’s awesome. I’ve had to buy a couple of new frames because I either didn’t have one for the picture or the frame was old, but that is it.

To my knowledge, Jesse is enjoying the new workplace. It’s keeping him busy and he’s liking that. Although some of the work they are giving him is not system administration, he hasn’t come across anything he hasn’t been able to handle. I’ve started seriously looking for work now. I’ve sent out my resume to a couple of law firms and have only heard back from one (we’re not hiring at the moment), but I have a couple of other addresses that I will be sending my resume to shortly. If I don’t find anything by the middle of May, I may go down to Barnes & Noble and see if I can’t get hired in there. It’s not a paralegal position, but it’s something while I’m looking. Plus I’ll get a discount on books! Like I really need more books, but I do have some being released within the next month or two.

Other than this, there isn’t much else going on. We’re still getting adjusted to the Michigan climate (it was 35 this morning!!!) as well as getting everything situated. I’ll write more later. For now, later all.

Update: The Big Move

Posted by myjaxon On March - 30 - 2006 ADD COMMENTS

By now, everyone is aware that Jesse and I are moving back to Michigan (or if you don’t, you should). Let me bring everyone up to spend on what has been happening.

Yesterday, we have a rep from Graebel Van Lines here to do the survey of the apartment. As it is scheduled right now, the movers will be here on April 12th to pack the apartment up. Everything, but what is on Jesse’s move list, will be boxed and ready to be loaded onto the truck. The movers will then be back on April 13th to load everything onto a truck. Hopefully, they will have this done in the one day. If not, then they may be back on the 14th. After going through the apartment with them, it I realized that Jesse and I have a lot of stuff. A LOT more than what we did when we got here. For starters, there is the 500+ collection of books (glad I’m not moving them) as well as the mass supply of CDs we got during our raids at the local used cd store (those ones aren’t so bad).

Once the apartment is all loaded up, I will attempt to get out of here fairly quickly. As it’s planned right now, I have a flight leaving DC on the 14th at 5pm. If the movers are done on the 13th, I’m going to try and get a standby ticket for a flight on the 13th. If the movers will have to be here on the 14th, than I’ll just leave at my normal time. Jesse is taking bets as to how long I’ll last here without a bed, books, any kind of entertainment, as well as no car. He’s betting two hours. Any takers?

The new apartment is all ready for us. We take possession on the 8th with Jeff picking the keys up for us on the 10th. Jesse will be arriving late on the 12th, he’s driving back with his parents. Once I get in, my father is coming up and we’re going to paint an accent wall in each of the rooms (I am NOT living in another white apartment!). All of the utilities will be turned on by the 10th (will the phone going on tomorrow) and everyone should have our new address. Let me know if you don’t.

I also need to remember to take pictures of all the valuables. Just so we can prove what condition they were in when they left here.

Alright, I think that is all for now. I’ll keep everyone posted.
